Moon phase complication explained
The moon phase indicator displays the current moon phase as seen from Earth via a rotating disc with the moon and stars engraved on it, visible through the cutouts on the dial. It advances slightly each day to match the 29.5-day cycle of the real moon. While it is mainly used as a decorative item today, it pays homage to the early days of watchmaking, when moon phase tracking was used for navigation and calendar purposes.
