Moon Phase Complication Explained
The moon phase indicator displays the current phase of the moon as seen from Earth via a rotating disc depicting the moon and stars, visible through the openwork on the dial. It advances slightly daily to match the 29.5-day cycle of the real moon. While primarily a decorative feature today, it pays homage to the early days of watchmaking, when moon phase tracking was used for navigation and calendar purposes.
